iPhone vs Android
iPhones and Androids are the world’s leading phone brands but which of the two is better?
Over the last 15 years, Apple and Google have been in fierce competition with their phones, iPhone and Android. With iPhone being most popular in America and Android being more popular worldwide, which of these phones is truly the better option?
“iOS 18 and Android 15 are the latest versions of the two competing operating systems, both offer smooth and user-friendly experiences and several similar or identical features,” Tom’s Guide staff writer Josh Render said. “But there are still important differences to be aware of that could sway you to one more over the other.”
iPhones have a largely young demographic and are most popular with women, while Android is most popular with those 35 and above and is used mostly by men.
“While Android isn’t objectively better than the iPhone, if you are someone who wants flexibility and a wide variety of phones to choose from, Android is the way to go,” consumer tech journalist Prakhar Khanna from Forbes said.
Android has some unique phones and features that iPhones are unable to offer. However, iPhones also have strong points in other areas that Android cannot keep up with.
“If you use any of the Apple services or devices already, iPhone is the better option than Android,” Khanna added. “The company positions iPhone as a more secure option than an Android phone; because Apple’s iOS isn’t open source like Android, it has more control over the iPhone and the apps and ecosystem features around it.”
Android phones' hardware is typically better for the price; however, the Apple ecosystem, software, and security are of higher quality than Android's.
“Whatever phone you currently own, it's not perfect,” Lifewire writer Sam Costello said. “However, that doesn't mean that switching is automatically going to make you happier.”
