Have you heard of the comeback of boxing? Well, the Paul brothers are bringing it back.
Logan and Jake Paul started as content creators with a large cult fanbase of younger kids. The Paul brothers earned their fame through Vine and YouTube content, as well as many controversies. The two brothers are comedians who used their overwhelming number of followers on social media sites such as TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter.
With over 50 million followers, they brought new attention to the sport of boxing with the younger generation. However, the Paul brothers are no strangers to controversies and publicity stunts.
“A video he posted to YouTube of the forest showed the body of a man who appeared to have killed himself,” according to Kalhan Rosenblatt of NBC News.
Logan pushed into the boxing scene in 2021 in the hopes of making the sport popular once again. Jake mixes his controversies into his fights, causing the fights to be talked about more as the drama between boxers and other online personalities becomes a focal point of many online circles.
According to ESPN staff writer Marc Raimondi, Logan “is one of the biggest financial draws in that medium, filling arenas and selling hundreds of thousands of pay-per-view units.”
Many found out about Logan and Jake’s new boxing careers through Logan Paul’s infamous fight with Floyd Mayweather, a globally recognized boxer who remains currently undefeated. The fight generated over a million pay-per-views, according to Damon Martin of MMA Fighting.
Logan shocked the world by holding his own against the professional boxer back in June of 2021, proving to the world that maybe the YouTuber has what it takes to be a real boxer.
However, there are some doubts about the validity of the fight.
“Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally stated the obvious Thursday, saying he would have scored a first-round knockout of Logan Paul if their June exhibition was an officially sanctioned boxing match,” according to Bleacher Report writer Tim Daniels.
Now in 2023, Logan Paul’s influence on boxing is evident, as it is once again gaining attention from the younger generation. Logan is getting ready to fight his new opponent, Dillon Danis, on October 14. His return to boxing since his 2021 fight has brought a lot of hype around it. With the hype comes controversy, which seems to follow the Paul brothers.
