Why You Should Join Clubs
Joining school clubs and other extracurricular activities has many benefits.
Clubs are a great place to meet people of similar interests and socialize with them. This makes it a wonderful opportunity to make friends, especially if you are a freshman, and struggling to make friends. If you're into science, literature, math, environmental issues, games, sports, and more, there's likely a club tailored to your interests. Socializing in clubs goes beyond small talk. You can connect with people who share your passions, and instead of having to search through the school of large groups of teenagers, joining clubs narrows down and filters through the students to help you find those similar to you. Extracurriculars act like magnets in a diverse school environment.
“I think that clubs are a good way to get active in the school community and to socialize as well as find people with similar interests,” said senior Breanna Pettway-Mobley, a member of the National Honor Society and publicist in Science National Honor Society.
Joining extracurricular clubs allows students to build skills in areas that interest them or learn new skills, as well as build communication and social skills. You can learn to work with others, boost your self-esteem, and improve your mental health overall.
Extracurricular activities also look good to colleges when applying. Joining these activities helps you stand out by reflecting your interests. Extracurricular activities can include community service, athletics, and any other activities that students participate in both inside and outside of school. Your involvement can demonstrate leadership and collaboration skills, which might impress colleges.
These clubs and extracurricular activities are all about exploring your interests, actively contributing, and connecting with like-minded peers. This will make your school experience more personalized and meaningful.
