The Ozempic Craze

The new rapid weight-loss craze that has hit the internet.

In recent months, Ozempic, a weight loss drug initially developed to manage type 2 diabetes and control blood sugar, has taken on a new life in the public eye. What was once a treatment for diabetics has transformed into a coveted quick weight loss solution. But anything with a quick solution is bound to have its drawbacks.

As word spread about Ozempic's weight loss potential, it quickly became a "miracle drug" in the public eye. Social media platforms were flooded with testimonials from users who shed pounds rapidly, creating a frenzy among those desperate to lose weight. While talking about all the positives, the negatives started to show their heads.

“People taking Semaglutide (Ozempic), the popular medication for diabetes and weight loss, are more likely to report having thoughts of suicide compared with those taking other drugs,” according to a recent study

An increase in suicidal thoughts as a side effect of Ozempic is not widely reported on. When millions only hear about how great something is, negative effects are often overlooked.

Ozempic not only has negative effects on the mental health of users, but also, according to other sources, can cause pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney disease, thyroid disease, and cardiovascular issues. Despite all these cons associated with the “lose weight quick scheme,” there is still praise for it online.

Celebrities with huge followings and influence over others have continued to promote and endorse the drug. People like Oprah Winfrey, Kelly Clarkson, Whoopi Goldberg, and others have publicly credited Ozempic for their rapid weight loss. This would be fine if they included the negative effects as well. People should be aware of the pros and cons of any “quick fix” drug before taking it.
