Sick of Social Media

I think social media apps like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram are getting boring. Their content is piggybacking off one another. I don’t want to see reposted TikToks on YouTube shorts.

YouTube used to host very original content, which includes challenges and content creators who did not care about views, but more about the fun of it. At this point, YouTube is considered something many people think is a job and a way to get money. People don’t think about having fun anymore, and I feel like content creators feel obligated to make videos to simply not lose their audience.

When looking at TikTok, there is no originality anymore. Trend beginners and dance credits are not addressed, and it is a problem. Other people are getting credited for trends they did not create, and people are not realizing that. Whenever I scroll through my For You page, the same sounds are rolling through my speakers and it’s getting annoying. My mom has even asked why I was replaying a video over and over again, and I told her that I was just scrolling. This shows how much content is alike and seeing these videos posted on YouTube shorts is even more infuriating.

Now that I think about it, I barely go on Instagram anymore. All pictures are edited and show unreachable beauty standards, affecting audiences horribly. I honestly don’t understand how someone can post on their stories constantly and not get tired of it.

These social media apps ARE getting boring and seemingly the only thing that matters are numbers: the number of followers you have, the number of views you have, etc. I just wish these apps were known for what they were like before. YouTube was known for interesting and fun videos made by happy creators. TikTok was known for being a lip-syncing app.  Instagram was primarily centered around pictures.

Unfortunately, I don’t see the future of these apps getting better. All content is expected to be the same thing. I don’t read, but I might consider actually reading a book now. I’m not particularly fond of books too, so I think that says something.
