Big Paxon vs. EVERYBODY
Big Paxon vs. EVERYBODY! The phrase is all over Instagram referring to Paxon’s sports teams, especially as we enter basketball season. After last year’s amazing season, the question on everybody’s mind is: will Big Paxon bring home another district championship?
Jayden Fenelon, the 5-foot-6 point and shooting guard, was asked whether he believed Paxon’s men’s basketball would be district champions again.
“Yes, I do,” Fenelon said. “100%.”
Saryn Hatcher is the men’s 6-foot-4 forward. He is using the big win last year as motivation.
“It feels great going into the year. It gives us like that chip on our shoulder and motivation we need to keep pushing forward this season,” Hatcher said. “I’m very confident in the team we have this year. I feel like we can go even further.”
Kennedy Waymer, the girls’ basketball point guard seems to agree.
“After winning the district championship last year, our confidence has been boosted along with an increase in our team chemistry,” Waymer said. “We now know what we are capable of and are pushing our goal to advance in the playoffs.”
Sean Way is the 6-foot-4 power forward and center.
“Paxon definitely will be district champions again,” Way said. “I don’t see too many who are a threat.”
The common theme amongst Big Paxon is the importance of chemistry and friendship. Shooting guard Ansley Hicks said that outside of the physical, there is one other thing that makes a player great.
“Being a good friend,” Hicks said. “Your teammates have to know that you’ll have their back on and off the court.”

“The most important part about being on the team is building bonds with each other and making a family on and off the court,” Waymer said.
Getting along and working as a team creates a learning environment that encourages and motivates one another.
“You need to trust your teammates when they’re on the court that they’ll do what they need to,” Hatcher agreed. “I know that I can trust them off the court in anything I need.”
Kyle Jones, the 6-foot-2 small forward, only has one thing to tell the school.
“I want more students to come to our games.”
